Arty and historic Brest

Unique and atypical in its position as the "end of the world" on a promontory overlooking the sea, Brest is also unique in its many cultural facets. In a single day, you can visit the remains of the Second World War, walk to a contemporary art exhibition and contemplate works of street art along the way... and in the evening, take in a show on one of France's leading national stages. Eclectic and multicultural, Brest lives up to its title as a City of Art and History.

The Museum of Fine Arts

The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Brest was not spared the damage caused by the war, with a large part of the original collection going up in smoke in 1941. Since then, new collections have been welcomed and constantly enriched to offer visitors an eclectic artistic journey, from the 16th century to the present day, with a strong emphasis on marine painting.

Brest and contemporary art

The city of Brest boasts two contemporary art centers, Passerelle and Comoedia, both of which offer several exhibitions a year, and both of which are located in historic sites in the city. Through these two venues and their respective programs, contemporary art is made accessible, educational and even entertaining.

Culture in the city

In Brest, culture also takes place outside the city walls, turning the city into a veritable open-air museum. Re-embellishing the streets thanks to the talent of post-graffiti artists: a fine program! 9 urban frescoes and 21 works of street art by world-renowned graffiti artists, as part of the Crimes of Mind project, adorn some of the city's facades and private properties. Keep your eyes peeled and your heads up during your strolls... there's plenty to surprise you!

Les Ateliers des Capucins

At Ateliers des Capucins, culture is protean. Sometimes intimate, other times monumental. But always accessible to all. Here, culture is shared by as many as possible!
