Why take advantage?

The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Brest is the fruit of a long history.
Inaugurated in 1877, it has benefited from donations, purchases by the city, exceptional bequests and shipments from the State. Destroyed in 1941, its recent history was marked by the construction of a new museum - inaugurated in 1968.
Today, it houses an important collection of paintings, sculptures and graphic arts (drawings and prints)... often associated with the city's maritime vocation.

Renowned for the quality of its collections, the Musée des Beaux-Arts offers a journey through art that focuses on seascapes, Breton-inspired painting, historical painting, Orientalist painting, the Symbolist movement, the Pont-Aven School and the Nabis, as well as a modern section devoted to abstract artists.
The collections are displayed in a harmonious progression through the galleries.
From Canaletto's famous Piazzetta San Marco to the surreal world of Yves Tanguy, from the Nabi canvases of Paul Sérusier and Georges Lacombe to the African sculptures of Anna Quinquaud... via Pierre Bonnard's garden: an invitation to travel!

The museum's art library offers a unique "art at home" experience.
Its collection of more than 1,250 works (prints and photographs) is available on loan, and offers an insight into contemporary art.
Temporary exhibitions are organized every year to punctuate the life of the museum.

The museum also offers a wide range of opportunities for artistic discovery, education and practice: themed tours, workshops for young visitors, family visits, shows, stories, films, concerts...
A place for the whole family to discover and share!
Tours available on request in English, Breton and LSF.
Please note: only the first floor galleries and the artothèque gallery are accessible to people with reduced mobility.
